Item #469

10 x 7” string-bound album with a light blue cover, darker blue decorative motif in the center, and “Photographs” written in gold in the lower right corner. Contains about 400 black and white photos, including many contact prints with several enlarged photos. There are notes from this budding photographer on the page, mostly technical tidbits along with dates from April, 1939. Photographs measure between 1 x 1.5” and 5 x 7” and are held to the pages with corner tabs. The dates in this album from April of 1939, coincide with the opening of The World’s Fair. It appears that whomever kept this album was associated with the fair, and the clues lead to Otto Heinsohn, whose obituary from 1963 is inserted in the album. He was a German immigrant who was a Superintendent for Sheffield Farms, which had a building at the fair. Some of the most exciting photos in this album are of the Sheffield Farms Building (known for pasteurizing, bottling and delivering milk to New York City). There are also quite a few photos from a wedding, baseball and photos from a meeting of the Handkäse Club (German cheese). Photos are both held to the page with corner tabs and some are lightly glued. Some of the glued ones have become loose, but it looks like nothing is missing. Quite an interesting album that could use some more research.

Price: $695.00
