Fifty-one 4.75” x 6.5” photos of indigenous people from Southern Africa. All have similar code numbers written along the bottom edge, and almost every photo is identified in pencil on the versos. They are undated, but appear to be from the 1960s. Written on the back of one of the photos is “A Bushman, Van Warmelo says Chinese peasant”. Dr. Van Warmelo, was a well-known ethnologist from the Netherlands and was Chief Ethnologist of the Bantu Administration in Pretoria. I don’t know if Van Warmelo took these photos or if someone else did, but they are most likely from Southern Africa. Twenty of the photos are identified as Bushmen, and other identifications include Ba Quissi, Nyemba, Hambria, Forte Rocadas, Humpata, etc. The photos are mostly of people, but there are a few of huts, footprints, homes, etc. The photos are in very good condition and the photographer, whoever it was, was very talented.
