There are ninety-four photos, mostly measuring 3.75” x 4.75” and they are inserted into the slots contained in this album (six are missing). The photos are of places in Italy and Croatia (Dalmatia) and include Venice, Pompei, Naples, Curzola, Trau, Ragura, Messina, Capri, Sicily, Florence, etc. A few are photos of artwork.
I bought this album at an ephemera show and another Dealer who saw it, told me that he had sold similar albums and said that these photos were a Salesman’s sample book, and the photos are from the Charles Beseler Lantern Slide Company.
The Charles Beseler Company was founded in 1869 and sold a variety of slide and photographic equipment. The company remains active today, still producing photographic equipment, and is based in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
These photos are undated but appear to be from around 1910.
The spine is peeling and has a label attached with the number 4230. There is rubbing and wear to the album, most of the photos are in good condition.
