Item #776

7.25” x 11.75” photo album with 23 rigid leaves, with all except one page have two photos apiece for a total of 90 photos in the album. What makes this mid 1890s photo album special, is that the photos glued to the pages are Kodak #2 photos, which each measure 3.75” x 4.75” with a circular image measuring 3.5” in diameter. It appears that the family was from Kansas City, though there are a few photos from a trip to Martha’s Vineyard in Vineyard Haven showing photos of sailing ships. Some of the names and places mentioned in the album include Hyde Park in Kansas City, Rosamund Smith, Charles Joseph Hubbard, Helen Van Brant, Groton, Charles Van Brant, New York Yacht Club fleet – Vineyard Haven, Freddy Lane, Cooley Lake, Ethel Greeley, Alice Van B. etc. There are photos of women musicians, people on bicycles, a photographer with a camera, people ice skating, dogs, cats and people having fun. A few pages have minor chips and some of the photos have some spotting and/or fading. A wonderful album at the beginning of the era where a regular Joe could buy a camera and take his or her own photos.

Price: $1,000.00
