HAND-CUT SILHOUETTE ALBUMS EARLY 1930s

Item #729

There are over 80 hand cut silhouettes in three separate albums, including two softcover notebooks and a collection of loose, hole-punched pages. All of the silhouettes are cut out from black paper. The 2 softcover albums measure 6.25 x 9.25” and both say “Clippings” with a picture of scissors in gold on the front covers; one book is white while the other is dark brown.
The white album contains around 40 silhouettes, mostly in profile, accompanied by the name of the sitter in the form of their signature and sometimes the date and location. Most of the silhouettes seem to be from 1930 to 1933.
In the brown album, there are around 25 silhouettes in full-length body poses, such as sitting or standing. Clearly the artist has taken great care to add details to their models, and in many cases the silhouettes have been embellished with drawn-in clothing and hair details. This album is not completely full and there are several loose silhouettes, and many do not have annotations.
The 7 loose pages contain around 16 silhouettes in profile, most annotated.
Some of the names of sitters include Kathryn Gorman Bradley, Louis W. Van Meter, Carrie F. Sargent, Edith Manning, and Mattie C. B. Perkins. The artist made silhouettes of men, women, and children.

Price: $499.00
