Item #708

Dark brown string-bound album with “Photographs” in gold on the cover and an embossed profile of a woman. The first page of the album reads:
“This Photograph Album belongs to:
Sue Betty Blaicher
11212 Homewood Ave.
Chicago, Illinois
The pictures in this album were taken with a Kodak Baby Brownie Camera. The first pictures were taken during August, 1939.”
Contains around 70 black-and-white photos and photo postcards of the staff and campers at Juniper Knoll, a Girl Scout camp in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Most of the photos seem to be from the Fourth Session of camp in 1940, with pictures of the children in the Greenwood Unit, the Shenghela Unit, and staff. Sue took care to photograph different areas of camp, including cabins, Flagpole Hill, and the dinner gong, while also documenting activities around camp, and counselors in training. Camp Director Barbara Enbury is shown, and also identified with the name “Cedar”; it seems like other counselors were also identified with a plant nickname. Sue also took photos of a baby panda seen in a zoo, and views on the way to New York and important monuments such as Grant’s Tomb, the Natural History Museum, and the Hayden Planetarium. Photographs measure between 3.25 x 2.25” and 7 x 4.75” and are held to the pages with corner tabs, annotated with identifying information. Around 7 photos appear to be missing. A couple of pages at the back of the album are empty.

Price: $195.00
