There are three hundred and sixty-eight, mostly 3.625” x 6” snapshots and a couple of enlargements in this 1906-1947 expansive photo album. The first part of the album documents the owner’s travels through Europe, from leaving the US on the Lancastria, to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Monaco. The second part of the album documents travel along the Pacific coast of the US and Canada, from bear hunting and more in Alaska and Glacier Bay, through the Canadian Rockies, Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., to Olympia, WA, Crater Lake in Oregon, California and down to New Mexico. Photos of the West and Pacific Coast total over 100. A few other places shown include: Juneau, Wrangell, Sitka, Seward, Haines, Dead Horse Gulch, Topanga Canyon, etc. The third part of the album includes portraits of family and friends around the country, including Beverly, MA, as well as three photos of President Taft and several more of who are presumably his staff, including two black servants. The fourth part of the album includes older photographs, tintypes, and ephemera from around Virginia, Colorado and elsewhere, dating as far back as 1906. An interesting part of the album is, there are several photos of groups where one man's face is scratched out. There is also a newspaper clipping of the "Ice Priest,” Rev. Bernard Hubbard dying. The clipping says that he was associated with the University of Santa Clara, and gained his title of "Glacier Priest" because of the scientific expeditions he led to the Arctic regions. Perhaps the person who owned this album, accompanied Hubbard on the trips shown here to Alaska, as there are some photos in this section of Dr Sheldon, Dr. Bob Rich and Dr. Jones. A few other items of note are a business card for Fong Wing, who was the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco, and there are also three photo postcards of Calvin Coolidge. Many photos have handwritten identifications on the photo edge or page, with some left unidentified. As a whole, the album is a wonderful survey of travel and interesting historically significant moments. The front cover is detached, a couple of pages are loose, and there is some edge wear on the black paper pages themselves, but photos are in overall good condition.
