11.5 x 7.5” black string-bound album (the string is undone) with “Photographs” on the front cover in gold. Contains around 324 black and white photos from travel throughout the United States, France, Italy, England, Jamaica, and Colombia between 1927 and 1936. The first page contains a summary of a trip taken in July 1929 which at the start took them to the Statler Hotel in Buffalo and then they traveled on through South Dakota and to Yellowstone. Photographs measure between 2 x 3” and 5 x 7” and are glued to the pages. The photos feature people and nature, especially mountains and rivers. Places pictured include Lake Huron, geysers, Old Faithful Lodge, Nantucket, Massachusetts, a fun beach party at Lido Beach, Bok Tower, Virginia Beach, Canyon Lodge, Niagara Falls, Murray Bay, and Castleton Gardens. There are some especially interesting pictures of the family feeding bears at Yellowstone, everyone sunbathing near a swimming pool on the deck of the S.S. Colombia, and several girls standing at the flagpole on top of the Notre Dame. Other photos include Peter Garrett and his parents next to their 400 year-old English cottage in Stratford-upon-Avon, and all of the traveling companions gathered together at Old Jordans Hotel. The photographs are first accompanied by handwritten annotations, sometimes with more descriptive commentary. Later, the annotations are typed and glued in next to the pictures. Around 15 pictures appear to be missing, though I believe that they fell off the page as there are at least 18 loose photos. Pages in the beginning are loose and it needs to be restrung.
