LEADVILLE COLORADO MINING PHOTO ALBUM 1890s
Item #609
11.25 x 7.25” brown string-bound album with a bust of a Native American embossed on the front cover along with a vase of flowers. Contains 24 photos, including cyanotypes, showing a family and scenes from the mining district in Leadville, Colorado. The album dates to around the 1890s, though there are no annotations. The album begins with snapshots of a family sitting outside of a house accompanied by their many dogs. The album then moves onto a photo postcard showing Dayton and Twin Lakes near Leadville, Colo. and cyanotypes showing the landscape of the Leadville mining district with a shot of men sitting by the entrance to a mine, views of felled trees, a street scene, etc. Photographs measure between 4 x 4.5” and 8 x 4.5” and are glued to the pages, and most pages have only one photo per page. A few photos have some spots, and it looks like some of the photos have writing on the verso, though I did not remove any.
