7.35” x 11.875” photo album with 57 pages and 270 photos and assorted ephemera that belonged to Alexander Wasil Benko. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Slavic Languages from the University of California, Berkeley in 1947 (I believe). Photos show Sausalito, Sacramento, San Francisco, with shots of Alcatraz, Sutter’s Fort and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are also views of Henry Cowell’s big Trees, oceans, forests and towns, football games, etc. There are several membership cards from the Evening High School of Commerce, which was in San Francisco, membership cards for the Slavic Society at UC Berkeley, Veteran’s authorization and admission cards, American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages cards as well and a Christmas Concert of the University Chorus at UC Berkley from 1946.
The inside cover has a label from the 1936 Texas Centennial in Dallas and the back cover has a label from El Paso, Texas. The front of the album has several detached pages with some loose photos and a few missing photos. A Google search shows that Benko wrote at least one book on the Russian language and that he died in Oakland, CA in 1992.
