Item #584

Ten 5" x 7" photos of crowds celebrating the end of WWII with the victory over Japan. One photo shows a group of black and white people holding the August 15, 1945 edition of the New York Daily Mirror with the headline "Truman Announces WAR OVER - M'Arthur to Rule Japs." Another has a fella holding a NY Daily News with the headline "It's Official - Japs Give up." There are other photos of women kissing sailors, reminiscent of the famous photo taken the same day by Alfred Eisenstaedt, and another photo shows a large multiracial crowd with American flags. The photos are not identified as to who took them, though the size and composition make it appear that these were done by a professional. These are not in perfect condition. There are some creases and bends and yellowing to the versos. A historic group of photographs.
