BUDDING PHOTOGRAPHER PHOTO ALBUM NYC, WASHINGTON DC, etc 1934-1936
11.25 x 7” coverless string-bound photo album. Contains about 240 photos from 1934 to 1936, most black and white, five hand-tinted, and a few photos printed on green paper. The person who put together this album was interested in photography and had a great eye. There are several photos recording the lighting conditions and exposure and exploring different ways of taking photos. Locations pictured include New York City, Gales Ferry, Central Park, Camp Edith Macy Briarcliff, Maine, Quebec, Camp Jefferson, and Washington, DC. People are also pictured, including the old Sneeds and Mrs. T.W. Sneed, and there are amusing photos of people golfing, playing football, feeding squirrels, and petting elk. Animals feature heavily in this album with plenty of photos of squirrels, ducks, geese, elk, mountain goats, pelicans, and a delightful cat. Amongst the more interesting photos is one of the Brooklyn fire in April 1935, one of the Good Year Blimp and one of man perusing a book display outside, which I believe is The Strand Bookstore in NYC. Photos measure between 1.5 x 1.75” and 4.25 x 2.75” and are held to the pages with corner tabs, accompanied by annotations identifying creatures, places, and photo information. Around 12 photos appear to be missing and some are loose.
