8" x 10" photo album showing the effects of syphilis in men, women and children. Circa 1910s album has fifty, mostly 5” x 7” photos, of which ten contain two images and four appear to be x-rays. Photos are glued to the page by the corners. Some corners are loose, and you can see a name and number written on the back. No photos have been removed, but the last few pages of the album are unused.

This album came from the library of Guy Hayne Mize, a San Francisco based General Practitioner. It is uncertain if he put together this album or acquired it elsewhere. Dr. Mize had a handful of papers on dermatological issues published in the California State Journal of Medicine and the Journal of American Medical association during the 1910s.

The photographs show people of all ages suffering from what appears to be Syphilis, with disfiguring rashes, hair loss, open sores, and in some cases, massive lesions.
