WWII SOUTH PACIFIC CAMP EMIRAU NAVY PHOTO ALBUM
There are just under seventy 5” x 8” photos, which are punch holed on the left edge and tied together with string. The first picture says “Camp Emirau, 1942 – Tulagi, New Caledonia, Emirau, Guadalcanal New Zealand – PROGRESS PICTURES, April-June, 1944, Navy 3220.”
Emirau was captured unopposed by two battalions of the US 4th Marine Division on March 20, 1944 during World War II. These photos show the aftermath. Images include road construction, Purple Beach, Naval Advanced Base, Ferry slips, etc. Most photos are marked “Restricted,” and are dated Spring, 1944. The first few photos have chips and bends. There is a slight curve to the photos as well.
