15 x 11.5” string-bound white album with “Photographs” on the front in gold, with a floral pattern around the border of the cover. On the inside front cover is written: “Presented to Edna on July 2, 1940 on her birthday by her Papa.” Contains 42 photos, including one hand-tinted photograph. Gorgeous shots of nature and people, with several of children; the Elting children were apparently Edna’s charges, according to the caption on the back of one loose photograph. Many of the photos are from areas in Michigan, including the Huron Mountains, Lake Superior, Pine River, and Canyon Lake. Photographs measure between 1 x 1.5” and 7 x 5” and are glued to the black pages. Three of the photos are loose, otherwise the album is complete . Most of the photos are accompanied by annotations in a neat white script, with some being far more detailed and anecdotal than others. One such annotation reads:
“Jean, in the foreground, taking her sun bath. Effie is the nurse in the Wheat family and Jean the cook. I had some blueberries and some cream in a separate container in my lunch. When the time came for lunch, I opened my jar of cream and there I found a pat of butter swimming around.”.
