NY NAVAL MILITIA PHOTO ALBUM SCRAPBOOK 1913-1915 1921

9.25” x 11.5” photo album/scrapbook with over 100 photos, newspaper clippings and three drawings. There is a fabulous 5.75” x 8.75” broadside for a football game in 1915 between New Rochelle and Bridgeport Naval Militias and four of the photos are 8” x 10” shots showing inside the USS Granite State after a fire.
A letter on the inside cover on stationery from the Seventh Division First Battalion, NMNY in New Rochelle, NY, dated February 15, 1915, describes the first three-quarters of the album. It says:
“This scrapbook was presented to the Seventh Division First Battalion Naval Militia New York by Francis W., George W. and Thornton A. Sullivan. The Division room committee of the Seventh Division First Battalion Naval Militia New York desire to thank the following for the photographs, clippings and snapshots received on or before the fifteenth of February, 1915…………………The Division room Committee solicit photographs, clippings, snapshots, etc., for this book. Any person having clippings, etc., are requested to turn them over to the division room committee. All clipping etc., will be placed in the scrap book as soon as possible. Members will not place any clippings etc., in the scrapbook until the division room committee approve the clippings. This step is necessary in order to keep the scrapbook in good condition. Members of the Division are requested to see that this book is not thrown around.”
The beginning dates from 1913-1915 and the back section is from 1921 on tour on the USS Arizona or/and USS Pennsylvania in the Panama Canal Zone.
Some photos have been removed from the page a few have tears and written on several pages in the front of the album is “THIS PAGE IS RESERVED.”
A wonderful scrapbook filled with photos of sailors, many identified, and newspaper clippings that tell a store.
