Item #1764

Moscow: Malysh Publishing House, 1975. Illustrated by V. Andrievich, verses by I. Shaferan.

A collection of six colorful Soviet children's educational posters promoting road safety through whimsical illustrations, familiar storybook characters, and humorous rhyming verses. Published in Moscow in 1975 by Malysh, a publishing house specializing in children's literature.

Each poster measures approximately 15½ × 23 inches and features bold graphic compositions incorporating anthropomorphic animals, automobiles, and scenes of traffic-related mishaps. Subjects include a chicken struggling to walk after crossing a street improperly, a bear and rabbit accompanying Buratino across a pedestrian crossing, a rabbit skiing toward an approaching automobile, a bear injured after crashing his scooter, Buratino dangerously passing beneath a vehicle, and two bears playing hockey in the path of traffic.

The illustrations combine bright colors, expressive characters, and striking typography, reflecting the distinctive visual language of Soviet children's graphic design during the 1970s. Each incorporates a short Russian verse warning young readers about the consequences of unsafe behavior.

The posters are credited to artist V. Andrievich, with text by I. Shaferan, and bear the original publisher's imprint and printing information, including a stated print run of 50,000 copies.

Beyond their educational purpose, these posters offer an appealing example of Soviet visual culture, illustrating how children's literature, humor, and public safety messaging were combined in state-sponsored educational materials.

All six exhibit age and handling wear, including creases, wrinkles, edge tears, and scattered paper losses. Several have tears extending into the images, and one has a more substantial tear and loss along the lower edge. Colors remain vibrant overall.

An unusual and visually engaging group, particularly appealing to collectors of Soviet graphic design, children's illustration, educational posters, and transportation-related ephemera.
