Student manuscript botany notebook from Emporia High School, measuring 6.75" x 8", in gray string-tied wrappers titled “Botany Note Book.” The title page is inscribed “Fall Term / Botany I / Pratt Slough.” The notebook is divided into sections including leaves, modified parts, seeds and fruit, and mosses and ferns. The first three sections contain 72 numbered examples, each with a pen-and-ink botanical drawing and accompanying handwritten descriptive notes. A final unnumbered section on mosses and ferns includes six additional examples, for a total of 78 illustrated studies.

Subjects shown include plantain, elm, dandelion, nasturtium, common morning glory, strawberry, wheat rust, and other botanical specimens. The pages are pre-printed “BOTANY, Emporia High School,” with student drawings and manuscript observations added throughout. A visually appealing early 20th-century student science notebook, combining careful classroom observation, botanical terminology, and attractive amateur draftsmanship.

Covers with some general wear, soiling, and rubbing; pages age-toned with light scattered marks and handling wear, but overall well preserved and highly displayable.
