1890s THEATRICAL COSTUME PORTRAIT OF MALE ACROBAT OR STAGE PERFORMER, MOUNTED PHOTO

Item #1619

6" x 8" mounted studio photograph with the image measuring approximately 4" x 5.5". Full-length portrait of a male theatrical performer or acrobat posed in costume, wearing a fitted bodysuit, puffed trunks, soft slippers, and a decorative ruffled collar before an elaborate painted studio backdrop. A blind stamp on the mount appears to read “Whiteley” or “Whitley,” and it looks like it is from Brazil, Minnesota. A little bit hard to make out. A striking and unusual late 19th- to early 20th-century performance image with strong visual presence.
