Original 8” x 10” silver gelatin photograph by William W. Lavendar, showing two men on top of a truck passing peanut vines into a mechanical harvester, while another man stands below observing. The harvester, marked “Washington, D.C. / Atlanta, GA,” is designed to separate peanuts from the vines and bale the remaining hay.
The print bears editorial crop marks, with painted highlights added to the clouds and foliage to enhance contrast for reproduction.
On verso: typed caption label reads, “Workers passing peanut vines in harvester which separates peanuts from vine and bales the hay. Photo by Wm. W. Lavendar. Bought 1/28/46.” Photographer’s stamped credit also present.
A strong agricultural image from the immediate postwar South, documenting mechanization and labor in peanut farming.
