Item #1299
The albums opens with seven studio portraits. Seven photographs are of women and one large head-shot of a man (the soldier). Turn the page, and the viewer is confronted directly with the destruction inherent in a war zone. Buildings marked by bombs or some other force are shown in a state disrepair.
The photographer’s lens also focuses on the urban and rural landscape, the coastal landscape, a congregation inside the Baptist Church, the Marine station’s infrastructure, and soldier’s barracks. It appears the soldier was stationed across Okinawa, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and China during the mid- to late-sixties.
Images document life as an American Marine as well as life in the occupied regions. Many beautiful underexposed photographs in Hong Kong, and elsewhere.
An empty photo envelope from "Photo Hoang-Anh, Da=Nang," is addressed to D. Saar, giving us a clue to the compiler's name.
There 265 photographs are held in a three-ring binder of 24 leaves/46 pages. The album has a split spine and some wear. The photos are in good condition.
