RARE - HAWAIIAN TINTYPE of MEN in UNIFORM - PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION c. 1900 SPANISH AMERICAN WAR
Item #1231
Sixth plate tintype, 2.5" x 3.5," in a 3.125" x 4.75" paper folder. The photo is of two men in military uniforms, which my military friends tell me is from the Spanish American War or slightly after, during the Philippine Insurrection. One man has a medal pinned to his chest.
What makes this interesting, is the photographer's stamp on the paper folder for F. H. Severin, Honlolulu, H.I." I've been selling photos for over 25 years, and I have never seen a tintype credited to a Hawaiian photographer. Also, what were these two fellas from the SpanAM war, doring in Hawaii? The photo has marks from the paper folder, and they certainly came together.
The cover of the paper folder is hanging on by a thread. The photo is slightly soft.
