1893 WORLD'S FAIR - COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION - PHOTO COLLECTION - UNUSUAL PERSPECTIVES
Item #1202
There are thirty-four 4.25" x 6.5" mounted photos from the 1893 Columbian Exposition or the Chicago World's Fair. Thirty-two are identified on the verso with a handwritten annotation in ink and some have "Chicago World's Fair, 1893" written in pencil. Two also have "I think" written next to them, but they are definitely from the Chicago World's Fair. Each one is also stamped "Photographed by Frank A. Ball, Claremont, NH." Frank Albert Ball (1860-1920), was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and died in Claremont, New Hampshire. In a census from the time, he is listed as a machinist and a photographer, who was married twice (first wife died). His father had over 100 patents, and the Albert Ball House in Claremont, was recently added to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places.
The photos are unique in that they show different angles and views that you usually see from the fair. The cabinet card-type of photos are in overall very good condition, with great contrast. The boards have a slight curve, which is not unusual.
