PAY PHONES on WALNUT STREET in PHILADELPHIA PHOTO ARCHIVE
Item #1172
Before there were cellphones, there was phone booths/pay phones on every corner. These c. 1990 photos show these phone booths in Philadelphia, with a twist. There are sixty-eight 8" x 10" photographs of a woman posing with pay phones along Walnut Street in Philadelphia. The woman's full face is only visible in one photo, but parts of her body are visible in every photo, even if it is just a hand. Written on the back of each image is the location. For example, a few say "Corner of 62nd St," "Corner of Front St.," "Between 6th and 7th (in front of the Dolphin Cafe)," etc. You can see Walnut Street in a few of the photos and the dealer that I bought these from is from Philadelphia and knew it was Walnut Street. I imagine that this might have been a college project, or a very imaginative person. The photos are in a portfolio and are in excellent condition.
