1960s ORIGINAL POETRY - JFK ASSASSINATION, LOVE, RACE, DRINKING, etc

1960s-era binder with plastic-sleeved pages, each with a carefully typewritten poem, 66 poems in all. The inside front cover has a table of contents clipped in, which lists the poems; Each poem is given a page of its own (except for one page that has two, and another page that has four). The paper used is Patapar typing paper, which has aged reasonably well, though it has dried and is now easily crinkled.

The poems touch on many different subjects: love, space, race, religion, etc. One poem on the assassination of JFK, is dated November 22, 1963. The poems are clearly written by a woman who is probably in her twenties, curious and inquisitive.

There are numerous obits for a Mildred Weldon online, but none with an A as a middle initial.

November 22, 1963

My God, My God

God help this world I cried in pain
An assassin’s bullet strikes again
Then darkness settled o’er my soul
Why not me but spare this man.

The tears they streamed they would not stop
For this young man who made the top
My mind flashed back not long ago
When he stood brave against our foe.

World on his shoulders, pain for his dad
Death of a baby what sadness he had
Never gave up never showed fear
The cheers of his people, rang in his ear.

I wake from my sleep, I weep and I pray
God help Americans on this dreary day
Are we to blame for surely we hate
I cry to the heavens, did we seal his fate?

Good to his family, gave to the poor
Never stepped back, fought in the war
Believing in God, we know that hie tried
And in November our President died.
