COLORADO WYOMING MIDWEST 1912-1919 PHOTO ALBUM
Item #1014
Charming and gritty western photo album of 35 leaves/70 pages and 215 photographs, measuring 7.25” x 11.5.” Of the photos that are provided with a date, it appears these were taken between 1912-1919 (when one would ride on horseback to the post office).
There is a wide range of circumstances photographed in this album. From a little urban town center to a homestead on a dusty ranch; from young school children in a one room schoolhouse to a fire on Tarkio College campus; from rushing dams to steam-engine trains.
The landscape can be observed changing through the mid-to-late aughts of the 20th century. Many photographs are provided with caption. Of those noted in Colorado: Fort Collins, Loveland Canyon, Mount Olympous, Estes Park, Fleming, Beetland, Atwood, and Walden. Specifically in Estes Park is the YMCA, in Beetland the schoolhouse, and in Walden, Colorado trains are seen rushing through the landscape as a dog appears to be barking wildly.
In Wyoming, photos were taken in Medicine Bow, Lovell, Viola, Rock River, Difficulty Creek, and Beer Mug Mountain. From Lovell, there are two large photographs made of the factory and factory workers in the year 1916.
It appears that somebody attended Tarkio College in Missouri. As there are photos of a ceremony, a fire at the clocktower, and young lovers staring deeply into each others eyes.
In September 1917, young boys were seen taking off on the train and heading to war.
Two photos are missing, some pages in the back are unused and some photos are not annotated. A lovely look at the 1910s in the west.
Price: $500.00
